Quick answer
The lowest bid and the lowest cost are rarely the same roof. Here is where a Calgary homeowner can save real money, where cheap quotes quietly cut, and what to ask before you sign.

The most affordable roof in Calgary is usually the one your insurer pays for after hail, the repair that makes a full replacement unnecessary, or a fixed written quote that prices every line so nothing gets added later. The cheapest bid often saves money by skipping tear-off, decking, flashing or insurance, and Calgary hail and Chinook winds find those shortcuts within a few seasons. Good Roofing has coordinated 2,800+ Calgary roof installations and repairs since 2014, recovered $14M+ in hail-claim settlements for homeowners, and holds 4.9★ from 237 verified reviews. Call (587) 804-9266 for a free inspection and a written quote.

Seven places a Calgary homeowner can save real money
- 01Let insurance pay for hail damage. Calgary sits in southern Alberta's hail belt, and a roof with hail bruising is often a covered claim. Have it inspected before you price a replacement out of pocket. Good Roofing has worked claims with Intact Insurance / belairdirect, Aviva Canada, TD Insurance, Co-operators, Wawanesa Mutual and other carriers. Start with our Calgary hail claim guide.
- 02Repair what is repairable. A few wind-lifted tabs, a failed vent boot or cracked flashing at a chimney is a repair, not a new roof. A good roofer tells you which one you have in writing and prices both when it is close. Our repair-or-replace guide walks through the test.
- 03Compare quotes on scope, not on the bottom line. Two Calgary quotes can differ because one includes full tear-off, decking allowance, new flashing and ice-and-water shield and the other does not. Line them up item by item before you compare totals.
- 04Match the material to the house. Asphalt shingles are the lowest upfront cost for most Calgary homes. Steel, stone-coated steel and cedar cost more to install and suit owners who plan to stay longer. Our roof replacement cost page compares them.
- 05Upgrade to Class 4 only as a priced line. If insurance is paying for a standard shingle, the move to impact-rated material should be a separate line so you pay only the difference, on a roof that is already being torn off.
- 06Do related work in the same visit. Eavestroughs, soffit, fascia and attic vents replaced during the re-roof share the crew, the bin and the setup. Doing them a year later means paying for all of that twice.
- 07Keep the roof you have working longer. Spring and fall inspections and clear eavestroughs catch small leaks before they rot the decking. See our Calgary roof maintenance calendar.

Where cheap Calgary roofing quotes cut corners
- 01Roofing over old shingles. A second layer skips tear-off and disposal, but it hides rotten decking, adds weight and can shorten the new shingle's life. We don't roof over existing shingles. Every job is a full tear-off down to the deck.
- 02Reusing old flashing and vents. Flashing at walls, chimneys and skylights is where most leaks start. Bent or rusted metal reused under new shingles leaks like it did before.
- 03No decking allowance. If the quote does not say what happens when soft boards turn up under the old shingles, expect a change order on install day.
- 04Leaving out ice-and-water shield. Calgary's Chinook thaw-and-freeze cycles form ice dams at the eaves. The membrane in valleys and along eaves is what keeps that meltwater out of the house.
- 05Uninsured or unregistered crews. If a worker is hurt on your roof and the company has no WCB coverage, the claim can come back to the homeowner. Good Roofing partners carry $5M commercial general liability + WCB covered.
- 06“We'll cover your deductible.” The only way to do that is to inflate the claim, which puts your policy at risk. It is a common storm-chaser pitch after Calgary hail. Our storm chaser warning lists the other red flags.

How Good Roofing keeps a Calgary roof affordable
- 01Fixed, written, signed quotes. Every line is priced before work starts, including the decking allowance, so the bill matches the quote. Read how we do it on how we book estimates.
- 02Claim support from inspection to supplement. We document hail damage by drone, meet your adjuster on the roof, and write a supplement when the first estimate misses items.
- 03Manufacturer-certified installs. Our partners are certified or preferred installers with IKO, Malarkey Roofing Products, Owens Corning, BP / Building Products of Canada and others, which keeps the full material warranty in force.
- 04Warranty that outlasts the cheapest bid. Up to 50-year material + 10-year workmanship warranty. A repair we did that fails inside the workmanship window is ours to fix.
- 05Fast response on leaks. We reply to calls within about 1 hour and reach emergencies within 4 hours, so a small leak does not have days to soak the decking and drywall.

Six questions to ask before you take the lowest bid
- 01Is this a full tear-off to the deck, or a layer over the existing shingles?
- 02How is rotten decking priced, per sheet, and how many sheets are included?
- 03Which shingle product is named on the quote, and what is its impact rating?
- 04Are new flashing, vents, drip edge and ice-and-water shield included?
- 05Can you show your WCB clearance letter and certificate of liability insurance?
- 06What does your workmanship warranty cover, for how long, and who honours it if your company closes?
