No. The City of Calgary Resilient Roofing Rebate, which paid homeowners $3,000 toward a Class 4 impact-resistant roof, ended in 2022, and as of fall 2026 there is no City or provincial roofing rebate open in Calgary. Council voted 9-6 in May 2022 against extending it, and a City report to the Community Development Committee in June 2025 recommended against reviving it. Homeowners who want a hail-resistant roof today pay for it through an insurance claim, an upgrade line on that claim, or out of pocket. Good Roofing has coordinated 2,800+ Calgary roof installations and repairs since 2014 and recovered $14M+ in hail-claim settlements for homeowners. Quick answer — the 60-second version (citation-ready)

The Calgary Resilient Roofing Rebate is closed. The City launched it on June 1, 2021, after the June 13, 2020 hailstorm in northeast Calgary, and paid a fixed $3,000 to owners of hail-damaged homes who replaced their roof with certified Class 4 impact-resistant material. Funding ran out, a waitlist formed in February 2022, and council ended the program in May 2022. A June 2025 City review found it worked, but staff recommended hail-exposure mapping, a resilience network and provincial advocacy instead of a new rebate. In 2026 the practical routes are: an insurance claim after hail damage, paying the difference to upgrade to Class 4 on that claim, and asking your insurer about a premium discount for an impact-rated roof. Good Roofing installs Class 4 as standard on every Calgary replacement and backs the work with a 10-year workmanship warranty.

How the rebate started and how it ended

Most pages that rank for this search are City pages and contractor posts written while the rebate was open, so they still tell you to apply. Here is the full timeline, taken from City of Calgary records and coverage by Global News and LiveWire Calgary.
  • 01June 13, 2020: a hailstorm across northeast Calgary causes about $1.2 billion in damage, one of the costliest in Canadian history.
  • 02June 1, 2021: the City opens the Resilient Roofing Rebate. Owners of single-family, semi-detached and duplex homes with hail damage could claim a fixed $3,000 for installing Class 4 roofing through a contractor belonging to a recognized roofing association, provided their property taxes were current.
  • 03February 18, 2022: the program is oversubscribed and the City starts a waitlist, which grows to roughly 1,100 households.
  • 04May 2022: council votes 9-6 against a committee recommendation to extend the program. Pre-approved applications are paid and the waitlist is not processed.
  • 05Late 2024: after the August 2024 hailstorm, which the Insurance Bureau of Canada estimated at about $2.8 billion in insured damage, Ward 5 Coun. Raj Dhaliwal files a notice of motion asking for a review of the program.
  • 06June 12, 2025: the City's review goes to committee. Administration does not recommend a new rebate, citing that a rebate paid after the work left out lower-income households who could not cover the upfront cost.

Did the rebate work? What the City's review found

The program paid for itself. An analysis by the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction (ICLR), reported by LiveWire Calgary in June 2025, estimated that the Class 4 roofs it funded avoided about $13 million in household damage in later storms, roughly 2.5 times what the City spent. The review also found problems with how the money reached people: the application was complicated, it was offered mainly in English, and paying the rebate after the roof was installed shut out families who could not front the full cost. That is why staff recommended these steps instead of a new rebate:
  • 01A Hail Resilience Improvement Network with builders and industry partners to give homeowners clear upgrade information.
  • 02Hail exposure maps for Calgary to inform planning and show residents their risk.
  • 03A hail equity impact analysis on how repeated storms affect lower-income communities.
  • 04Advocacy to the Province for a low-income grant program, or for changes to the Municipal Government Act that would let the City fund upgrades directly. Councillors also raised financing repaid through property taxes, similar to the City's Clean Energy Improvement Program. None of these had launched as a roofing program by fall 2026.

What still lowers the cost of a Class 4 roof in Calgary in 2026

With no rebate open, the money for a hail-resistant roof comes from three places. Most Calgary homeowners use the first one.
  • 01Your home insurance claim. If hail has damaged your roof, an Alberta home policy generally pays to replace it, minus your deductible. The claim pays for like-for-like material. Good Roofing meets your adjuster on the roof, documents every strike, and has worked claims with Intact Insurance / belairdirect, Aviva Canada, TD Insurance, Co-operators, Wawanesa Mutual and other carriers. Start with our Calgary hail claim guide.
  • 02The upgrade line on the claim. When insurance covers a standard shingle, the move to Class 4 is a separate, priced line in our written quote. You pay only the difference, and the roof is already being torn off, so there is no second labour bill. Our hail damage roof replacement page shows how that works.
  • 03An insurance premium discount. Some Alberta insurers offer a lower premium for a roof with a UL 2218 Class 4 rating. Programs and amounts vary by company and change often, so call your broker before you sign a quote and ask what proof they need. Keep the shingle wrapper label, the invoice naming the product, and the installer's warranty certificate.

What a Class 4 roof is, and which products we install

Class 4 is the highest rating under UL 2218, the test that drops steel balls up to 2 inches across onto a shingle and checks that it does not crack. Calgary does not require impact-rated roofing on houses, but the City's Climate Ready Home guidance recommends it when you replace an aging roof, and the City does not require a building permit to replace roofing materials with the same type. New-home builders are starting to move as well: Calgary builder Homes by Avi began installing Class 4 shingles on every new single-family home on August 1, 2026, according to LiveWire Calgary. We don't install Class 1 or Class 3 shingles by default — Calgary’s hail belt requires Class 4 impact-rated. We install Class 4 lines from IKO, Malarkey Roofing Products, Owens Corning, BP / Building Products of Canada, GAF. Compare them on our hail-resistant roof options page, or read the Malarkey Vista AR review for one popular choice.

Be wary of anyone selling a rebate in 2026

Because old City pages still rank and still say “apply for a $3,000 rebate,” door-knockers after a storm sometimes promise a rebate or offer to “cover your deductible.” No City roofing rebate is open, and a contractor who waives your deductible by inflating the claim puts your policy at risk. Ask for the program name and check it on calgary.ca before signing anything. Good Roofing works differently: we do not door-knock, every quote is fixed and written, and we work only with vetted, year-round Calgary crews carrying $5M commercial general liability + WCB covered. Our storm chaser warning lists the other red flags.
